Theodor Küng was born in Hong Kong and has lived in New York, Switzerland, Vienna, Cambridge, and London. He received his undergraduate degree from Clare College Cambridge, with subsequent qualifications and prizes for academic excellence from the Royal Academy of Music and the London School of Economics.

Following his first paid gig, which involved dressing up as a caveman to entertain children from the local summer camp, Theodor worked for around a decade as a professional violinist performing throughout the UK and Europe. He has shared the stage with many of classical music's top soloists and conductors and performed with orchestras and ensembles including the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Welsh National Opera, Royal Northern Sinfonia, City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra and others. Alongside performing, he worked extensively in music education and outreach, giving workshops and performances for schools, refugees and community groups in Europe and the Middle East.

He later moved into artist management and joined HarrisonParrott, one of the world's leading classical music agencies. As an artist manager, Theodor represented and worked closely with internationally recognised conductors, soloists and composers, including Grammy, César, and Academy Award winners, and holders of the French Ordre des Arts et des Lettres. His work included negotiating engagements and contracts, planning tours and recordings, and working with artists and presenters across Europe and beyond.

Since 2025 Theodor has worked at the Financial Conduct Authority, the UK's conduct regulator for financial services. His work there has included corporate governance and compliance management.

Writing has accompanied these different careers throughout. Theodor has written fiction, poetry, essays, reviews and commercial copy, and has received prizes and shortlistings for his short fiction and poetry. His first novel The Winter Wilds draws in part on his family's deep connections with Switzerland.

Theodor currently lives and works in London.
