Richard Mathern’s career as a wildlife journalist is not going well.
Stalked by misfortune and the looming threat of redundancy, his last chance comes in the form of an unlikely assignment to track down a mysterious animal in the Swiss Alps. Meanwhile, a vicious corporate power struggle back in London threatens the entire enterprise with premature termination. Assisted only by his hapless school chum Graham, Richard finds himself in a struggle with hostile terrain, petty local bureaucrats, and a remote village haunted by the ghosts of its own past.
Set on the fringes of one of Europe's last great wildernesses, The Winter Wilds is a story about memory, the beauty of nature, and the darkness that lurks at the edges of everyday life. Also featured are lots of mountain-related trivia, some mild supernatural peril, and a goat named Jerome.
ABOUT THEODOR
Theodor Küng is a writer based in London. In addition to his first novel, The Winter Wilds, he has been awarded prizes and recognition for both poetry and short fiction in multiple international writing competitions.
Theodor's writing is underpinned by a varied professional history: as well as performing as a professional violinist for over a decade he has worked as an ad copywriter for TV & Radio, an artist manager, a French teacher, a caveman re-enactor, and - most recently - a corporate governance associate in financial service regulation.
